What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy was founded in the late 1800's by Dr Andrew Taylor Still, who demonstrated that mechanical problems in the body not only lead to aches and pains, but also influence the function of the internal organs, thus contributing to many ailments and illnesses.
Osteopathy is specifically designed to correct these problems, without the use of drugs, based on the principle that the body is self-renewing, self-regenerating and self-recuperating and can therefore heal itself, given the optimal mechanical function to do so.
Whenever good health is compromised, symptoms or disease can develop, thus Osteopaths seek to understand what has gone wrong and why, rather than just the resulting condition.
Bones, ligaments, muscles and joints all have a profound effect on the functioning of the body's systems, the correction of these through Osteopathic treatment can make a significant improvement in restoring good health and overall wellbeing.
Paediatric osteopathy
Specialist Paediatric Osteopaths are further trained to recognise and address similar issues for an age group that may be unable to verbalise problems, in a body that is in constant change caused by growth and development. Paediatric Osteopathy, also known as children's osteopathy, baby osteopathy and cranial osteopathy, commonly find that problems presented later in life can be traced back to mechanical insults arising in childhood or earlier life. Taking care of any issues when they appear can prevent any problems later in life.
